Chances are the moment you see a zero percent APR card offer in your mail, you consign it to the “junk” section and proceed to scrutinizing your bills. But think again – it may not be as important as paying your electricity, but it MIGHT help you in paying your electricity. That is because qualifying for a zero percent interest card might be the best thing you ever did once you are aware of the five benefits of having such a card in your wallet ready for use.

Transfer high interest credit card balances. If you have a card, or more than a few cards which you are desperately trying to pay off amidst soaring finance charges, then you can simply transfer those balances onto your zero APR card. If you are paying twenty percent interest on another card and have stopped using it because all you can afford to pay each month is the minimum balance, this is a great option for you. Not only are you able to pay off those older balances much easier, this gives you more clout when it comes to purchasing.

You can consolidate your debts on one single credit card. For people with several credit cards that are maxed out, consolidating them all onto one 0 APR card is the perfect way to pay down the debt quickly. With a single zero APR card, your payments would go entirely to the principal as long as you are within the zero APR promotional period, instead of satisfying only the interest.

Transfer high interest rate loan balances. If you have a few loans, like a car loan, where you are paying an unconscionable rate, you can use your card to pay it off without interest involved. Pay it off at the bank with the 0 APR credit card and then make your interest free payments to the card to pay off this balance.

No interest financing can enable you to make ritzy purchases. Planning to buy some furniture or an appliance? Is your family’s next grand vacation long overdue? Your zero APR credit card can allow you to make these lavish purchases without having to worry about finance charges.

Up your credit score. Of course, this can only be achieved if you meticulously pay your monthly bill, even if the balance may be high due to other loan or credit card balances transferred onto your zero APR card.

Determining how much we live our lives is our credit scores. We use our credit to buy practically everything. When we apply for a loan, we can receive reasonable interest rates with the help of our good credit scores. In fact, since credit scores are a reflection of our financial health, everyone looks at our credit scores, from landlords to insurance companies to utilities. A healthy credit score may determine what various agencies will charge for their services. Today, even employers check personal credit scores before offering a job.

If we know more about credit scores and the factors that affect them, then we may be able to build a positive credit history. But how they are maintained by the various credit reporting agencies is the first thing we need to look at.

Three major credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – calculate credit scores. Though they use the same methods and formula to calculate scores, they sometimes come up with a different rating for various reasons. It’s likely that one agency have more updated information about an individual. A creditor may have shared information with one agency only, but not with the others. While checking on our scores, creditors take the average of the three scores from these three agencies.

When it comes to credit scores, they range between 300 and 850. Excellent for obtaining mortgage financing at low interest rates is a score of 680 and above. If you have a credit score of 621 and 679, this is an average score and you would have to pay a slightly higher rate of interest. Making us potentially unreliable and harder to obtain credit is a credit score of below 600. Credit repair steps should be taken immediately when a credit score falls below 600.

These are the following factors affecting credit scores and basic steps you can take to maintain an accurate credit score rating with the credit bureaus.

Payment history and the current credit/debt held should be routinely checked.

The length of credit history is a determining factor. Naturally, the longer a ‘good’ credit history, the better.

Do not close old or paid off accounts. These show the credit history length and contribute to higher credit scores.

Pay off debts to improve credit scores.

Making payments on time. Delayed payments appear on credit reports and adversely affect it.

An individual’s race, sex, age, level of education, or marital status has no bearing on a credit score, nor does the fact that an application for credit was previously turned down.

Enabling us to receive credit and loans at good rates is taking care to maintain a high credit rating. Our credit score is a reflection of how we manage our finances and a determining factor for many aspects of our lives. How to have a healthy credit history is what we need to know early on as this is the best way to avoid bad credit and limited loan options in the future.

There are some indications that the credit card industry is recovering since the issuers are getting competitive with each other for the best clients. You can get a bonus of up to two hundred dollars if you spend a certain amount in three months or so. As people start spending again, credit card issuers will be competing for your business. These account opening bonuses aren’t going anywhere and will even possibly get better.

It will be easier to get credit. During the crisis, it was difficult to be approved for a credit card or any kind of loan at decent APR unless unless your credit history was top notch. Now that credit ratings for many people are moving up, card issuers are ready for your business. People with good to excellent credit will find it easier getting a credit limit increase. This can be a great for your credit score as long as you don’t go on a spending spree. Your credit rating gets a boost when when your utilization ratio is low (the amount of credit used compared to the level of credit you are allowed).

Credit card use will continue to rise. A big part of the reason is because people who got shut out of credit during the recession crisis are now being invited to try again. Many folk who had simply cut back on their spending are breaking out the plastic again. Be careful though – If you’ve been on a strict budget due to a job loss or similar event, make sure you ease back in gradually.

Consumers with less-than-perfect credit are welcomed back. The APR may be better than last year, but the predator lenders are out there. Consumers who have credit scores lower than six hundred need to be especially careful and check out all the fine print. The average APR on a credit card for people with low credit is 25%, but some rates can go up to almost 50 percent for those with bad credit scores.

Its the year of balance transfers! Credit cards with zero percent introductory interest rates on balance transfers aren’t particularly new, but now consumers are starting to recover from the effects of the recession, credit card issuers can see there are people who want to remove recession-induced debt. The lengthiest intro period at the moment is twenty one months. Perhaps we’ll see two years or more at some point. It hasn’t been that long since Discover once offered a two year intro period, so it does happen. Once again, be careful of any transfer fees, which could be from 3 to 5 percent of the transferred balance.

As technology always rules, we will probably to see some innovation in the coming years, probably linked to smart phone technology.

Being financially tangled is difficult. Nothing is more lucrative than a peaceful financial status-no creditors to keep haunting you. But to some this is a ceaseless pursuit. Stop chasing against the wind and follow these five straightforward guidelines to free yourself from excessive financial obligation.

1. Be a responsible payer, the earlier you settle your accounts the lesser your chances of being charged with tax loans. Nowadays it is difficult to trust, but your creditors took a risk on you hopeful that you would mutually benefit from the agreement. This is a win-win situation. Your creditors earn from your loan (through the interest) and you will gain a favorable credit report that is very crucial in determining your credit score.

2. Save money. You never know when the need for reserves arises. You should set aside a significant amount for contingencies. Because it is during these situations that borrowing money is needed. Substantial savings will compensate these costs and frees you from incurring serious financial obligation. If saving money is not your personality, try harder. Start keeping a small percentage of your earnings, keep it in the bank, then make regular deposits thereafter. If you fail, don’t despair. Keep trying. It always takes time to change for the better.

3. It is not a fact that bankruptcy will get you out from debts, in most cases it does the opposite. You might not know the process which happens upon filing bankruptcy. First you will be asked to write a list of all your creditors. Then you will be requested to inform all your creditors through a formal letter reporting that you filed for bankruptcy. The next event that will happen will be a lot more difficult because you will be forced to divulge all your asset information breaking the walls of your private life. Of course there will be a court room trial which is made to investigate your financial restructuring plan which will be attended by a lot of people. Another disadvantage of filing for bankruptcy is the filing fees you need to pay which is around $5, 000. You can decide on how to settle your balance, usually it would take 2 to 5 years for that which you need to pay on monthly installment base.

4. Manage credit card use. Credit card is not a uncommon in the United States. As a matter of fact, you can easily find someone who maintains as much as ten cards anywhere. Using a credit card is more convenient than paying cash. However, you need to understand that next to the ease which credit cards provide is the greater responsibility of paying your accrued financial obligations. It is a fact that credit card holders are more inclined to spend more than their usual spending; thus accumulating excessive debts. Here’s a tip: Keep two credit cards only-one for your business and the other for your personal expenses. And avoid using department store cards. These cards compel greater interest rates than other credit cards.

5. Go for low credit limits. In choosing credit cards it is not always good to go for a high credit limit, because you are likely to incur higher spending than the usual. Just go for an average credit limit so it will be easier to manage.

I remember well being invited to dinner by my boss, which was really good. When it was time to pay, he produced his wallet with a flourish and handed over up his Gold American Express Card. The waiter glared at the familiar card and solemnly stated, “We do not take those cards in this establishment, sir.” Incredibly, as this was some time ago, he didn’t have any other credit cards and I was left to settle up with my humble Visa card.

Of course, nowadays most people have various cards, which is intended to give maximum financial flexibility, but is this true? If you consider it, why does anyone need more than one credit card? It doesn’t really make any sense at all. Naturally again, some strange people parade their stock of cards as a type of status symbol, a measure of their success. In fact, it might be said that it is some indication of their failure that they have to showcase themselves in this way.

There is a bit of a problem that often happens with holders of multiple credit cards – I know, because I’ve done it. It’s not too difficult to get over extended financially and making that huge error of using one card to pay the installment on another. It gives some short term relief but the end result is the same. It’s far better to bite the bullet, tell yourself you your debts are too big and take some action. What is the correct action?

Well, start using a credit card in the right way, which is to afford you the capability of buying something you don’t have the money for at the moment, but can pay over a longer term. This is terrific for Christmas and vacations, for instance. For daily things like gas, and groceries, I would never use it. If you get to the stage where you are using three or four credit cards in sequence, or regularly use cards for every day expenses, then its time to change your ways. You need to look at the various ways to change the situation.

The ultimate aim is to use just one credit card – the challenge is to return to this ideal situation, and also not to use it for items need to live daily, because this is what your salary is for! The outcome will depend on by credit score, but let’s assume it’s pretty healthy, which means you may have large amount of revolving debt, but haven’t defaulted on your payments yet.

Believe it or not, you are in rather a powerful position! There are card issuers who will let you transfer existing balances to one of their products, and also charge you no interest for up to 18 months. This is the opportunity to reduce your balances and get control over your finances, perhaps even pay off the debt entirely.

A credit rating is a lot like a school report.

A credit rating is a lot like a school report. It contains a 3-number “grade”, which represents someone’s credit worthiness to possible future creditors, major banks, insurance companies, mortgage companies and possibly employers. The bigger your rating, the better will be your chances of getting credit. Here’s how you can control your debts, and enhance your credit report.

Examine Your Credit Report. There are 3 big credit reporting bureaus today, and by applying to these agencies, its possible to get a copy of the report, so that you can closely examine it. Just as if you were using a small toothed comb to remove knots and dead hair, you should examine your credit report with a careful regard for erroneous information, or similar abnormalities. Examine any wrong payment, credit limit, or collecting detail that you really feel doesn’t belong there. It’s true that some typewriting errors or numeric mistakes frequently appear on some credit reports, so its prudent to get a copy of the report at a minimum once every year.

Pay Your Commitments At The Right Time. Always ensure that you pay all of your monthly commitments on time. Tardy payments or missed installments will really have a big impact on your credit rating. If you don’t pay some of your bills at the time, get ready to get some bad marks on your credit report. To keep clear of any negative credit report entries, set up regular monthly payments for automatic payment from your bank checking account, in this way you won’t have to deal with the collection agencies in future years.

Balance Your Credit Card Commitments. No matter if you have several credit cards, take care to spend prudently and manage your credit card commitments. If you haven’t got enough money to re-pay a current credit card balance at present, try asking for a loan from a someone in the family or close friend, so that the debt will be removed from your account, and your credit report gets a useful boost. Look for the best low interest rate credit cards.

Take Care When Loan Shopping. If you continuously look around for loans, or apply to several lenders over a short time, your credit rating will certainly experience a large drop. Try to make a group of loan inquiries inside a particular time frame, such as one every couple of weeks, so your credit ratings stays healthy, and won’t experience big drops, and so losing the confidence of lenders.

According to credit professionals, a credit rating within the range 300 to 580 means that you’ll just be approved for loans which attract really high rates of interest. A credit rating within the range 651 to 710 indicates that you should be eligible to get credit at medium rates of interest, and a rating of 751 and more signifies that you are eligible to get the most competitive and reasonable loans to consumers.
